Melbourne’s Longest Running Book Club

We are a literary book club based in Ivanhoe, in the north-east of Melbourne. We meet monthly (March to December) on Tuesday nights to discuss important and interesting texts.

We welcome new members. If you love reading, sharing ideas and discussing books – get in touch or come to our next meeting. Everyone is welcome.

During the winter months of June, July and August our meetings will be conducted via Zoom.

The December meetings are end-of-year social gatherings. There is no book presentation for that month.

Our group has been meeting continuously since 1920. Read more about our history here.  You could also listen to this podcast to learn more about our history:

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 4 April 2023 at the Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub, Community Meeting Rooms 1.39 & 1.40.  The meeting commences at 7pm and concludes no later than 8.45pm.

N.B. If you are not an IRC member and you would like to participate in any of the Ivanhoe Reading Circle meetings, get in touch so that we can send you the link and any additional information.

In general, our meetings are quite structured. We begin with a short presentation on the month’s book, presented by a Reading Circle member.  The meeting is then opened to everyone for questions and discussion.  In April or May each year, we invite a guest to provide a presentation based on a literary subject. The format of this meeting differs from that of the other meetings.

The information for the 2023 speaker is as follows:

Tuesday 2nd May 2023.  Speaker: Nicole Smith will discuss her publications Sideshow  and Local Hero and her experience of writing, editing, and publishing.

We value everyone’s voice and represent a diversity of ages and opinions.

In the winter months  of June, July and August our meetings are conducted via Zoom
